Who Are We?

Hospital Nama (ہسپتال نامہ) is a free to use website aimed at providing reliable, unbiased and up-to-date information about hospitals in Pakistan to ensure that users are able to make more informed decisions about their healthcare providers. With Hospital Nama, you can view hospitals near your location, compare hospitals, get recommendations for which hospital is best suited for your needs and view details about areas of complaints at each hospital.

To our knowledge, there is no other publicly available source of data about the statistics of both private and public sector hospitals in Pakistan. We created this website to address this gap -- to ensure that data about healthcare facilities in Pakistan is easily accessible by ordinary citizens.

How Do We Get Our Data?

We get our data from various publicly available and reliable sources.

Information about hospitals, such as if they are public or private sector or if they are a teaching hospital, are taken from government databases, from the hospital’s official website, if available, or by calling the hospital’s front desk.
Information about the hospital’s Punjab Healthcare Commission Zone and whether it is Sehat Sahulat Card Empaneled are taken from the PHC and NPQSC website respectively. We have tried to verify Sehat Sahulat Card information by calling the hospital’s front desk wherever possible as well.
Finally, information about negative reviews and complaint categories are taken from publicly available data through Google Reviews. For more details on how we make categories please see the section below.

How Do We Create Categories?

We create categories for reviews by utilizing Python to analyze the Google Reviews of hospitals. We segment the reviews based on their star rating, using ratings from 3-1 stars to gain access to areas of complaints. Then we process the text and pass it through a BERTopic pipeline, which creates themes from those reviews. These themes are manually grouped into higher order themes: for example, we grouped topics relating to “cockroaches”, “dirty bedsheets” and “unhygienic” into a broader theme relating to the hospital’s environment.

We also noticed department specific complaints that we did not group into these broad categories, instead leaving them as their own topic. In order to ensure that these topics are accurate, we only create categories for hospitals with over a hundred Google Reviews, hence why not all hospitals are included.

It is important to note, however, that these reviews should always be taken with a grain of salt. Although we have tried to keep these categories as accurate as possible, sometimes reviews may be grouped under a different category depending on the keywords used in the review; hence, we have included the review text within the website so that users can always cross-check themselves.
